The International Master of Accountancy program is
specifically designed to provide international students with a broad
background in all aspects of North American accounting with an emphasis
on managerial accounting and information systems.
Our IMAcc is ideal for students who have not completed
any previous studies with English as the language of instruction
and who have studied accounting outside of North America.
The program is a professional program that uses a
variety of teaching approaches including cases and business-based
projects.
All
aspects of professional communication are strongly emphasized:
writing, speaking, listening, and reading.
We
believe the graduate experience provides the breadth, depth, and
professional attitudes that will be needed by the accounting profession
in the future, and enhances the career prospects for graduates.
The
program is a lock-step program that includes: an intensive English
language study program, a transition term, and two academic terms.
Each of these required terms increases students' skills and prepares
them for subsequent terms.
There
is also an internship option for IMAcc students to work in Canada
for a four-month work term following the completion of their academic
courses.
The
program encourages the development of critical thinking, analytic
and communication skills. It is intended to enhance the ability
of students to adapt and respond to a complex changing business
environment and to develop a professional attitude, with sensitivity
to related ethical questions.
The
overall objective is to provide a strong academic grounding that
will support and encourage the expansion of knowledge for both
the individual and the profession over the long term.
